An extension cable for Type 2 AC charging: it adds extra reach between your existing charging cable and your car. Available in 7.2kW single-phase or 22kW three-phase, 5 m, 8 m or 10 m.

It is built for setups where the charger’s own cable is just too short, for example a wall-mounted unit with a fixed cable, or a car parked further from the charger than usual. It has a socket end for your existing cable’s plug and a plug end for your vehicle, and a locking mechanism to help keep the connection from working loose.

Before you buy:

  1. This is an extension only. It does not replace a charging cable or a charger.
  2. Some vehicle and charger manufacturers advise against using extension cables, or may not cover damage caused by them. Check your car’s and charger’s manuals first.
  3. Charging power is limited by the lowest-rated part of the whole chain (car, charger, existing cable, extension)

【Adds reach where your charger’s cable falls short】:A 5 m, 8 m or 10 m extension helps with fixed-cable chargers, kerbside parking, tight garages or inlets on the far side of the car. You add only the length you need, so measure the extra distance, not the total.

【Locking mechanism for a steadier connection】:The integrated lock is designed to keep the connectors together while charging, reducing the chance of the joint working loose when the cable is pulled or knocked. (Manufacturer-stated. It is a connection aid and not an anti-theft device.)

【Tough PC+ABS housing】:The housing is PC+ABS and flame-retardant to UL94 V-0 (manufacturer-stated). The manufacturer states it withstands up to 2.5 tonnes of pressure, which suits daily use in a garage or driveway. It is not designed to be driven over on purpose.

【Choose the power that matches your setup】:7.2kW single-phase suits typical home and single-phase charging. 22kW three-phase is for three-phase equipment. Buying the higher rating only helps if your car, charger and supply can use it.

【UNIVERSAL COMPATIBILITY】:Designed to work seamlessly with all IEC 62196 Type 2 BEVs and PHEVs, compatible with Type 2 AC charging cables, wallboxes, and portable EV chargers — giving you flexibility no matter what charging equipment you use.

How to use

  1. Confirm that your vehicle and charger manuals allow extension cables.
  2. Stop any active charging session and make sure the existing cable is unplugged from the car.
  3. Insert the plug of your existing charging cable into the extension’s socket end and engage the lock.
  4. Insert the extension’s plug end into your car’s charging inlet.
  5. Start charging at the station or via its app.
  6. To finish, stop the session, unplug the vehicle end first, release the lock and separate the connectors.
  7. Keep connectors clean and dry and store the cable loosely coiled.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. A Type 2 to Type 2 cable connects a station socket to your car. This extension adds length to a cable you already have. If your charger has a socket, a longer Type 2 to Type 2 cable is usually simpler.
The socket end takes the plug of your existing charging cable. The plug end goes into the car. Please check the product photos and manual before you connect.
It can be, but only if your car and charger manufacturers allow it. Some advise against extensions or may not cover damage caused by them. Check your manuals first, don’t chain extensions, and stop using it if it feels hot or the connectors are damaged.
It shouldn’t reduce the rated power if all parts are properly rated, but a longer total cable run adds some voltage drop. Your car and charger may also adjust power to the lowest-rated component, so check the specs on each.
The 22kW version on single-phase is limited by the supply. The 7.2kW version is single-phase only, so it cannot pass 3-phase power. Match the version to your setup.
It is rated IP54, which covers dust and splashes. It is not designed for heavy rain jets, standing water or immersion. Keep the joint off the ground and under cover where possible.
It’s designed to hold the two connectors together during charging to reduce accidental disconnection. It is not an anti-theft lock.

This is a Type 2 EV Charging Extension cable (7.2KW / 32A single phase) in 5m length from ELEVOCHARGE.

This cable allows you to extend your existing charging cable by 5 metres. I tested the extension cable on my Kia E-Niro granny charging cable, this allowed me to granny charge 2 EVs at the same time at my home. I found the extension cable very easy to use, allowing me to extend my granny charging cable into another 3pin socket in my house.

Although I did not test the cable at its full charging speed, I have no doubts that this cable would handle the full 7.2KW charge rate absolutely fine. The cable is very thick and is of very high quality.

I actually intend on using this extension cable in the future with a commando type socket since we have one of these in the garden, at least until I get round to getting a full EV charger installed.

The cable comes with a decent case which allows you to carry the cable around with you on your travels.

I think this extension cable is of decent value for money for the quality of the cable that you are getting.

I was looking for a cable solution to parking issues on my drive. If I park nose in the charger is too far away for my existing cable, I can reverse in but then struggle to open my door easily. Options, a longer charge cable or this, an extender.
Now for my home unit it doesn't matter as I have the eeasey one charger so I can lock the cable as tethered or untethered but if you have a fixed tethered cable then only an extender is an option.
This one comes in a nice bag with a non slip bottom which is good to stop it slipping around your boot. The cable itself is well made with decent connectors and a lock included, more on that later.
The cable is simple to use, just plug onto the end of your existing charge cable and then into your car. Remember this extender is rated for 7kv charging so will throttle higher voltages and generally not a good idea.
There is a clip that prevents the socket end going into your charger direct, that clip located into your cable end and clicks in place. The supplied padlock then can go through the release button to prevent it being undone. I would say though that the latch is essentially external at this point and a quick lever with something metal could bypass that lock pretty easily but is a deterrent nonetheless.
One more thing is that connection will always be the lowest point and likely to attract water in heavy weather, I know it's supposed to be watertight but be careful with placement all the same.
Cost wise it's cheaper than a new box and similarly priced as an equivalent standard charge cable but of course you are adding length. I am not sure how it would work with other commercial chargers but the maximum it would be safe to work with is 7kv anyway so we are not supercharging here.
Decent extender for home use

Well Made and Convenient, but Hard to Justify the Price

I got this Type 2 EV charging extension cable to give myself a little more flexibility when charging, particularly in car parks where the charging point isn’t always close enough to the vehicle. The extra length makes a real difference, eliminating the need to reposition the car just to reach the charger. It supports 7.2kW/32A single-phase charging, and I experienced a stable, reliable connection throughout use. The cable feels robust and well constructed, with thick insulation that inspires confidence for regular outdoor use. The safety lock is a welcome feature, helping to keep the connection secure during charging and reducing the risk of accidental disconnection. Despite its heavy-duty build, the cable is still flexible enough to coil up and store in the boot without too much hassle. My only reservation is the price. While the quality and performance are difficult to fault, it is considerably more expensive than many competing extension cables with similar specifications. If you regularly rely on public chargers or need the additional reach, it is a useful and dependable accessory. However, if you only need an extension occasionally, the premium price may make it difficult to justify despite its excellent build quality.

My new charging assistant!

Despite the growing number of EV charging points, there are still those scenarios where the length of charging cable is too short and can present a problem if you happen to have positioned your car the wrong way, or in extreme situations the obstruction of another car prevents you from reaching the charging port altogether.Having a charging extension cable has instantly become one of my motoring essentials and this 5m Elevo cable now resides permanently in the boot of the car to combat those awkward situations.Comes with a convenient zipped storage case, cleaning cloth and a 3-digit combination padlock. The padlock is intended to be inserted into a small hole in the button release of the connector end the cable. This prevents intential or accidental disconnections. The combination number on the padlock is preset to 0-0-0. There is no paperwork included in how to change the combination, but details are available in the product description - screengrab them incase they disappear!

Exactly what I needed as works well.

This 5mtr type2 extension cable is absolutely perfect for my needs. I've just purchased a our first plug in hybrid and because it's a use car there was no incentive offer of a wall charging. Our drive is a little way from the house so having the extra length by using this lead makes life so much easier. It is very well made and all connections seem solid. The lead comes supplied in a nice storage bag which makes it easy to just pack it away in the boot without it getting twisted. There is also a nice microfibre cloth too hero keep it clean and dry before putting it away. The lead also comes with a small numerical padlock this can be used to lock the extension to your original lead for safety but I have managed to change the number and not it won't lock at all. I believe it is because it's a cheap lock rather than my inability to complete the task, however I thought it was very weak and certainly not too the standard of the main product. As mentioned this is the first time I've had an EV so fit me this lead is great and the price seemed very fair as it worked exactly as needed.

Quality at a fair price

This Type 2 EV charging extension cable is one of those things which you hope not to need. But, if you do need it, you REALLY need it. Struggling to manoeuvre your car within reach of a too short or badly placed charger is a nightmare. I was able to have my home charger fitted in a good place for my current car - but who knows, the next car may have the connector on the other end or side. And, of course, there are chargers away from home when this cable might be essential. The cable is nicely packaged in a fabric case. Cables do get caught up with other accumulated dross in my boot, so this case is a definite plus. Inside the case the cable is well packaged with protective bubble wrap. It comes with a cloth to clean the cable. There is also a small combination padlock - more of which later.Connecting the cable was a snap. Just plug the appropriate ends into car and tethered cable and the charger is ready. On my set up charging started immediately at full power. There is a tiny hole on the release button on the connector to the tethered cable. The hole is actually quite hard to see and would be next to impossible to find in poor light. The plan is to insert the combination lock into that hole to stop accidental or malicious disconnection. It is very hard to get the lock into the hole. Repositioning the hole by just a couple of millimetres would have made a big difference to the usability. As far as I can see there are no instructions on how to change the combination of the lock. I guessed that 000 would open it - and it did. It still does as I have no idea how to change it.At the price listed (just about £100) it is at the lower end of cables of this length. It certainly seems to be a good quality product at an attractive price. However the impression is spoiled by a poorly sited padlock hole. The idea is fine here but the execution is poor.

Reliable and practical Type 2 EV charging extension cable

I ordered the ELEVOCHARGE Type 2 EV Charging Extension Cable (5 m, 7.2 kW / 32 A) to give more flexibility when charging my electric car at home and away. After using it regularly for the past few weeks, here’s my honest review:Pros:Solid 32 A / 7.2 kW capacity — handles full single-phase charging speed without issuesGood 5-metre length — provides useful extra reach when the charger or parking spot isn’t perfectly positionedSafety lock works well — keeps the connection secure during chargingRobust build quality — thick cable and sturdy connectors feel durable for regular outdoor useCompatible with standard Type 2 chargers and vehicles — plug-and-play with no errorsFlexible enough to manage and coil reasonably easily after useCons:The cable is quite heavy and thick — can be cumbersome to carry and storeStiffer in cold weather — takes a bit more effort to unroll and positionNo storage bag included — have to find your own way to keep it tidyPremium price compared with shorter or lower-rated cablesVerdict:The ELEVOCHARGE 5 m Type 2 extension cable is a dependable solution for increasing charging flexibility. It delivers full 32 A performance, feels well-made, and the safety lock adds peace of mind. While it’s heavy and a little stiff in colder conditions, it has proven reliable for everyday home and occasional away-from-home charging.

A great cable that does exactly what it says

This comes in decent packaging that protects the contents well. The main use for this is as a portable product for use when you are charging away from home. Sometimes charging points don’t quite reach or are awkward for other reasons, and this adds another 15ft of reach. This isn’t how I am using it, however. We have 2 EVs but a single charging point, and the rear car is about a foot too far to do it without pulling the cable dangerously. By adding this extension we have doubled the charging distance. There is now no hassle charging either car. With this product you get a nice storage case so you can safely stick it in the boot. You also get a padlock which you can use to lock the cable in place, to stop it being stolen. This is a great idea, although I am using a better lock with a key as the one provided could be cut off with small boltcutters. The cable has a high waterproof rating but I have added some silicone sealant to the connection and then wrapped it in a tight silicone sleeve. Better safe than sorry. The build quality is very good overall, with nothing that looks like a weak point. It’s not quite as good as the cable you get with a decent EV or charging point, but pretty close. Not bad considering it costs a fraction of the price. In terms of performance it is exactly as specified. We have been using it for a few weeks and have had no issues, charging time appears to be the same as always. So for the current price of £109.99 I think it’s pretty good value, although you could upgrade to the 8m version for just £20 more.

Reliable extension cable. Durable, and comes with a carrying case

I’ve not had any issues with this extension cable. It works exactly as expected; just plug it in, and it adds extra length to your charging cable, which is perfect if you are parked further away from the charging port or you have extra cars that also need charging. I use this when my daughter comes to visit since there isn’t any room for her to park closer, and it saves us doing musical chairs with our cars every time she comes to visit and wants to use our house as a charging dock.Anyway, this cable has already had a few drops. It’s got plastic ends, so they scratch up a bit, but they haven’t broken yet. It comes with a soft case to stop it getting really beat up in storage. One thing I read in the instruction manual is that you need to fully unfurl it when you use it, since it can overheat otherwise.

A Real Solution to a Frustrating Problem

The media could not be loaded.

Solid, reliable, and does exactly what it should. No more charger gymnastics!I’ve had my EV for about a year now, and while I love the car, the positioning of my home charger has always been a minor frustration. I had to park the car in an exact, specific spot just to get the cable to reach without tension. If I was even a foot off, I was stuck. I finally decided to buy this Elevocharge extension cable to solve the problem, and it has been a total game-changer.First off, the build quality is immediately noticeable. This is not a flimsy, cheap accessory. The cable is thick and robust, but surprisingly flexible enough to coil back up without a fight. The plugs feel heavy-duty and click into place with a very satisfying, secure snap. The locking mechanism is a great feature too; it gives me peace of mind that the connection won't accidentally come loose mid-charge, and the added padlock is a nice deterrent when charging in public.Performance-wise, it’s flawless. I’m getting the full 7.2kW charging speed from my home wallbox with zero drop-off. There’s no heat buildup at the connectors, and the car recognizes the cable immediately without any errors. It’s also been rained on a couple of times, and the weatherproofing has held up perfectly. The included carry bag is a great bonus—it keeps everything clean and organized in the trunk. For the price and quality, this is a no-brainer. If your charger placement isn’t ideal or you just need a spare cable for the car, this is the one to buy. Highly recommended!
